What is documentary wedding photography?

The title might seem a bit of a mouthful, but documentary wedding photography quite simply means capturing the whole wedding day as it unfolds, following the story of the day and viewing the photos in a sequence that follows naturally. It is a style of photojournalism and is the most popular style of modern wedding photography for a number of reasons.

 

Your wedding day is one of the most special days in your life, and you want to make sure your memories are captured in a way that truly reflects who you are as a couple. You want all the silly moments, the heartfelt moments, those once-in-a-lifetime shots captured in away that is genuine and most of all, real.

 

By choosing a documentary approach for your wedding photography, you’ll get your whole day captured, right from the first scenes in the dressing room, through to the first dance. Having 18 years experience in shooting weddings I understand that natural photos are important to you however most couples request a short list of formal group photos.  These are done quickly and with the help of your Ushers and Bridesmaids minimum time is spent away from the fun of your wedding day.

I was born and raised in central London and am lucky enough to still live here today, I have 18 years experience and over 500 weddings shot. I'll use my knowledge and expertise to decide on the best lighting, be that natural light or flash. Ideally I try to use available light as this allows me the freedom to shoot without being noticed.

 

Documentary wedding photography captures a wedding in real time, telling the true story of the day with the couple at the centre of it all.
